Biography

William Elder Drummond Smith joined Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd in 1920. He was an assistant in the company's Produce Department at Hankow, 1920-1923, and Shanghai, 1923-1929, before taking charge of the Produce Department at Shanghai in 1929, as well as the Brewery from 1935. He transferred to the Private Office at Shanghai in 1941, and became a Director there in 1946. He joined Matheson & Co. Ltd in 1947, and was a Director of that company, 1947-1954.
