Scope and Contents

Originals and a few copies of semi-official letters from Bosanquet & Skrine Ltd, Colombo, to Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with enclosed letters and papers, including copies of correspondence between Bosanquet & Skrine Ltd and Matheson, Bosanquet & Co. Ltd, Cochin and Colombo:

1. Nos 1-61, 63-65 and 65-100 from W.W. Berry (mainly) and F. Cunningham to W.J. Keswick (mainly) and W.E.D. Smith, 23 November 1950-22 September 1952. No. 46, 16 August 1951, is a copy. There are two letters numbered 65, dated 4 and 31 December 1951. There are also a few unnumbered letters from Colombo to London.

2. Nos 1-85 and 87-260 from W.W. Berry, M.B. Butler-Cole, C.D. Green, John R. Murray and D.A. Neale to W.J. Keswick (mainly), H. Flint, J.H. Keswick and W.E.D. Smith, 6 October 1952-27 October 1961. A note records that no. 86, 2 June 1954, regarding Stein Hall Inc., New York, has been filed in the Produce Department. Nos 218, 5 June 1959, 221, 15 July 1959, and 225, 24 March 1960, are copies.

3. Nos 1-3 from D.A. Neale to W.J. Keswick, 28 May-2 August 1963.

The subjects covered include investment in Bosanquet & Skrine Ltd; the Burnside Estate; the Cochin buying commission; Jardine, Balfour Inc.; David Jones & Co. Ltd; Lucky Valley (Nilgiri Hills) Tea Estates Ltd; Matheson, Bosanquet & Co. Ltd; pensions; staffing issues; stock buying by Matheson, Bosanquet & Co. Ltd, Cochin; tea for Australia; instant tea; the Turkish state tea monopoly; and Wallwood Plantations & Agency Ltd.
