The typewritten caption on the reverse reads 'When the boy has finished teaching his father, Philip asks Mulenga to write down what he has learned, to find out whether he really knows all that has been taught him. Mulenga writes quite well and shows that he can now read and write'.

Philip writes their names in his book and agrees to give them copies of Shibukeni, and to show them how to begin if they promise to find their own teachers among their families and friends as Mulenga did'.
