Sir Lowry Pass - over the Hottentot [Khoekhoe] Hollands Mountains, Cape, 1925
290 x 241 mm. A view looking along the railway line which follows the Sir Lowry Pass over the mountains east of Cape Town. Built by the authority of Sir Lowry Cole during his term as Governer of the Cape, 1828-33, in order to shorten the route to Cape Town from farms east of the range, it was bitterly criticised for its cost, but with the introduction of a toll system it in fact proved to be a lucrative source of revenue.
