The building, which was designed by the Public Works Office and completed in 1870, is a handsome classical house with the Royal coat of arms above the entrance. 203 x 147 mm. A view from across William Street, festooned with telegraph wires, to the mint, a classical building built in the form of a private residence, with the works behind. The road running off to the left is Latrobe Street. The building was designed by the Public Works Office, and the residence and offices fronting the street were completed during 1870.

Spring Street, Proclamation Day, 1900 - 1901

201 x 144 mm. A view of Spring Street from the Parliament Buildings, looking across towards the Grand Hotel. A figure under an awning (presumably the Governor) reads the Proclamation, with crowds all around, and soldiers at attention lining the streets. Queen Victoria signed the Federation Proclamation on 17 Sept. 1900 and it came into effect on 1 Jan. 1901. It is unclear whether the photograph was taken on the earlier or later date.

An exterior view of the cathedral, a fine product of the Gothic revival in Australia, situated on Eastern Hill facing down Gisborne Street, and designed in 1860 by William Wardell, who had earlier been a pupil of Pugin. The nave was in use by 1869, but the building was not consecrated as a cathedral until 1897.
