Scope and Contents

388 x 273 mm. A view looking across Gisborne Street towards the partially built Cathedral at the left of the picture. The road to the right of the church is Cathedral Place. The building of the Cathedral started in 1863 and in this photograph the main body of the church is completed, with work still in progress on one of the towers. In the background the beginnings of work on the transept (commenced in 1870) can just be seen. The wooded area to the right of the photograph is part of the Fitzroy Gardens.
