The building of the Cathedral started in 1863 and in this photograph the main body of the church is completed, with work still in progress on one of the towers. In the background the beginnings of work on the transept (commenced in 1870) can just be seen. The wooded area to the right of the photograph is part of the Fitzroy Gardens.
