Scope and Contents

390 x 275 mm. A view looking over central Melbourne with the junction of Queen Street and Lonsdale Street in the foreground. The two most prominently identifiable buildings are the Post office (at the junction of Elizabeth and Bourke Streets in the centre of the print) and the Town Hall (at the junction of Swanston and Collins Streets, behind and to the right of the Post Office). Scaffolding can still be seen on the lower sections of the Post Office building, whose foundation was laid by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh in 1867.
