Contains slides showing scenes in the house and gardens of John Ewart Marnham's residence just outside Castries. They include slides of the very attractive views from the garden and a series of aerial views taken at varying heights in May 1972. This section concludes with photographs of members of the domestic staff taken just before Marnham left St Lucia (dated Oct 72 nos 18-25). Slides have been renumbered but arrangement in the file remains as per the original typescript catalogue.

The plan of the ceremony on the Order of Service and the clarity of the photograph make it possible to identify the service units and the various local bodies - Boy Scouts, police, disabled soldiers in wheel chairs, etc. A photographer with a tripod camera is in the foreground.

Gouyave, or Charlotte Town, Grenada, 1890 - 1893

A view looking down on Charlotte Town, with the sea beyond : 'Charlotte Town or Gouyave (population in 1891, 2 225) is built on the shore of an open roadstead on the west coast of the island, about twelve miles to the north of St George's by road. There is a fine jetty, with a commodius block of public buildings at its shore end (!), two churches, a telephone exchange, and a water supply, which, however, is not in full working order at the present time, but extensive repairs...

318 x 216 mm. A view looking across the garden and drive towards Government House, in front of which stands a landau with a uniformed driver. This new, brick built Government House was commenced while the previous Governor, Sir Walter Sendall, was away from the island in 1886, the year after Grenada became the headquarters for the Windward Islands administration. The figure standing on the steps leading up to the house is probably Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson.

Standing in the drive in the foreground is the Governor of the Windward Islands, Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson (1849-1913), who assumed the post from November 1889 until 1893. He later spent nine years as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Cape Colony.
