260 x 190 mm. A front view of the large stone building, with white dressed stone decorations, and large central tower. Probably designed by William Bennett Hayes, and now demolished. The building stood in what is now the eastern part of the Botanic Gardens.
Parliament Buildings, 1870 - 1880
183 x 125 mm. A view of the rear of the buildings, which face on to Spring Street. The building was started in 1856 and continued with various delays until 1892 (even then, two sides of the building remained unfaced).
Parliament House and Treasury, 1885 - 1901
199 x 145 mm. A view of the Parliament House building from Spring Street. The treasury building can be seen in the distance. The Parliament buildings face down Bourke Street and have an ornate frontage with steps leading up to Doric columns and facings of Mount Difficult stone. Building was started in 1856 and largely completed by the middle of the 1880s.

225 x 180 mm. A similar photograph to C3085C/4, although a slightly different angle. In the time lapse between the two pictures, the road has been surfaced, there are telegraph poles, and the street is lit by gas. A horse no longer browses in front of the main entrance to the building. The extensions to the building have not yet, however, been started.
