Scope and Contents

Two undated copies of a seven-page letter from Norah Young to her children, 1916, describing her voyage to Australia and early years there; photocopies of notes on the career of Reginald St Chad Young, originally written in 1965 (4 pages); xerox copies of photographs in the possession of the family (6 pages); and a family tree (1 page).
The papers are accompanied by 'Glimpses of the past: a long life ended', a photocopied transcript of an article that appeared in the 'Adelaide advertiser' shortly after Norah Young's death, which reproduces some of the material found in the letter to her children (7 pages). There is also a draft of the article on the collection that appeared in 'Royal Commonwealth Society library notes', no. 235, May-June 1988 (9 pages); a note on the collection (1 page); and correspondence between Terry Barringer, R.C.S. Librarian, and the donor, Marion Jenkins, 1988 (4 pages).

Biographical / Historical

The principal members of the Young family represented in the collection are Norah Creina Young (1835-1925), who emigrated to South Australia in 1854, and her grandson, Reginald St Chad Young (1873-1967).
