Biographical / Historical
Meta Maclean, teacher, musician and composer, accompanied 480 children evacuated from Britain to Australia on the 'Batory' in 1940, which she described in her book 'The singing ship' (1941). She campaigned against the lowering moral standards of jazz, pop and song combines.

Part of the collection was found in a box of uncatalogued material on 23 May 1994. Additional papers were presented by the Woman's Library, London Metropolitan University, August-September 2005.
