Biographical / Historical

It seems probable that this album represents the private collection of someone (possibly J.F. Butterworth) who had some professional connection with the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1888, since it includes a group photograph of English exhibitors, and as well as general views of the exhibition buildings, pictures entitled 'Moseley's exhibit' (a Northern-based tailor), and 'Interior of Mr. Goodwood's Office', which would seem to imply a somewhat more specialised interest in the proceedings than mere tourism.
