Letter from Clare Sheridan (1 Rue Bonapart, [Paris, France]) to WSC asking him to try to get her a job writing letters for the press on the situation in France, affirming her commitment to furthering Anglo-French relations, referring to strikes and tension in France and reporting that 1st Lord Beaverbrook [earlier Sir Max Aitken] hates women and has refused to let her do his bust.

Letter from Sir Abe Bailey (38 Bryanston Square, [London]) to WSC arguing that with the departure of [1st Lord Birkenhead, earlier F E Smith] from the Cabinet WSC is in a dominant position. Expresses opposition to the Anglo-French alliance because it threatens to make Germany and the United States enemies of Britain.

Letter from Eric Phipps (British Embassy, Paris, [France]) to WSC enclosing and commenting on CHAR 2/141/9 and reporting that the French are grateful to WSC for the consideration which he displayed towards them, which shows the need to "distinguish between the present very reasonable and friendly French Goverment and their noxious predecessors.".

Telegram from the President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, to WSC explaining his proposal to resume limited economic assistance to North Africa and to send further Red Cross aid to children in France; comments on recent bombing operations against France and suggests that these should be supplemented by use of psychological and economic weapons; comments on the importance of North Africa and Vichy France as a source for "vital military and strategic information".

Telegram from Field Marshal Jan Smuts [Prime Minister of South Africa] to WSC regarding operation ["Ironclad"] against Madagascar: pledges all necessary support for the interception of the French convoy [of reinforcements] and states that he will take no action to formally break off relations with Vichy France before the attack unless the Foreign Office advises otherwise.

Telegram from the Prime Minister of Canada [Mackenzie King] to WSC commenting on the decision of the United States to withdraw Admiral William Leahy [former United States Ambassador to France] from Vichy France and asking for WSC's opinion on whether Canada should maintain its diplomatic relations with Vichy.
