Prime Minister's printed personal minutes, January 1944.Includes texts of minutes from WSC (annotated with additional printed information) to: members of the Cabinet and other government ministers; Major-General Leslie Hollis [Military Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet]; General Sir Henry Wilson [Supreme Allied Commander Mediterranean Theatre]; Desmond Morton [Prime Minister's Personal Assistant]; the Chiefs of Staff; senior civil servants, including Sir Edward Bridges [Secretary to the War Cabinet]; General Sir Hastings Ismay [Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence]; General Sir Bernard Montgomery [General Officer Commanding the Eighth Army].Subjects covered by the minutes include: WSC's criticism of the national service entertainment; the Home Guard; relations with France and the Free French; proposals concerning Palestine; naval power, including manpower; the western frontier of the Soviet Union and the Baltic states; the Japanese threat to India and potential operations against Japan including Culverin [attack on the Japanese-held Dutch East Indies, later Indonesia]; the British military and political structure in the Mediterranean; tank policy; negotiations with Turkey; preparations for "Overlord" [invasion of France].
