The documents were collected for a Joseph Needham paper entitled 'China and the Origins of Immunology', (Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong, 1980). It was read as the first S. T. Huang-Chan Memorial Lecture in Hong Kong, 1980. An abridged version was published in 'Eastern Horizon', 1 January 1980.

Most are connected with Joseph Needham and Lu Gwei-Djen's review article of Porkert's 'Theoretical Foundations of Chinese Medicine', (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press, 1974), (a translation of the original 'Die Theoretischen Grundlagen der chinesischen Medizin', (Wiesbaden, 1973).

250 folios: a collection of formulae, prescriptions and medical recipes arranged according to the class of remedy described, and divided into two books, the second dealing with external remedies only. Each book is subdivided into sections. On p. i the name Boussac occurs in the same hand as the writer of the book, and the same name occurs stamped on the binding. There are no initials.

The Association was formed at the International Conference on Traditional Asian Medicine, September 1979. Professor A. L. Basham was elected President. The file also includes documents relating to other conferences on the history of medicine.
