Biographical / Historical

First mention made of this society in The Griffin is in Lent 1922. However, the society had obviously been going for some time. It changed its name to The Whitby Medical Society, named in memory of Downing's Master and eminent physician, Sir Lionel Whitby, in 1957/8 after the Master's death in November 1956.
