Letter to Mr Warner [apparently acting for the college] with reference to 16a and 16b below and a potential disagreement with 'Mr Dean'
The advowson was purchased by the college in 1718. For the early history of the advowson see 1a below.
For the decision to purchase on the favourable report of two fellows, see Chapter Book, 3, pp. 64-5.
The modern references for 1g and 1h have been reversed to preserve the chronological sequence.

Letter to Nan Anderson, 1953-06-07
Letter to Nan from 'Jean' [Miller?], addressed from Newnham College, relating to Nan's recent trip to see the Coronation procession in London. She mentions Frank [Anderson] having been involved in the BBC sound reception for the event. She also mentions a visit to Nan at Malvern Girls' College and Cambridge May Week events and wishes Nan luck for her exams.
Letter to Nicholas Bacon, bursar, in terms similar to those of 9c., 1710-02-12
The rectory, with the perpetual advowson of the vicarage, was presented to the college in 1594 by Roger Manners of Uffington, third son of Thomas Earl of Rutland and one of the Esquires of the Body to the Queen, for the maintenance of four poor scholars.

Travers has sent 20s to Mr [Henry?] Coppinger junior for 'discharge of sizings and commons unpaid at his departure. He queries whether allowance has been made for sums due to him for reading the logic lecture, and similar matters.

The plate is listed, and valued in 2 lots at £10 and £7 6s 8d. At the foot of the letter is John Hilles' receipt for £7 6s 8d from Dr Norgate dated 7 August.
The dorse is signed by Thomas Legge.

The rectory of Alford was bequeathed to the college by John Green, Master 1750-64, Bishop of Lincoln 1761-78, for the purpose of purchasing annually three pieces of plate for presentation to undergraduates who distinguished themselves academically; he also gave £100 for the renewal of the lease (see, in more detail, Lamb's edition of Masters' History of the College at p. 247. and no. 2, below).
