The high walls are decorated with antelope horns, spears and other artefacts, with an ornately carved wooden gallery overlooking the room. The heavy wooden furniture is also elaborately carved in the Arab style, with Zanzibar Chests against the wall.

Fine examples of stalactites and stalacmites are often seen and, of course, these caves are often the home of hoardes of bats. This picture shows the entrance to one of the caves which is very nothing more than a hole in the ground with a fifteen or twenty foot drop to the floor.'

At the left of the group is John Houston Sinclair (1871-1961) at this period Vice Consul at Zanzibar and later Consul (1906). The remaining two figures are unidentified.
