Drying Cloves, 1933 - 1948
Scope and Contents
Views mostly of cloves being laid out to dry. Wilson provides information about clove farming on the back of some of these photographs:
"Young helpers at clove harvest. Women and children all help in the urgent business of clove harvest. Here are some children sitting on the concrete drying floor separating cloves from stems."
"Clove pickers sitting beside a large concrete drying floor ('Sakafu') where the clove buds are spread out to dry in the sun. In good sunny weather this may be achieved in four days - in cloudy or rainy weather it will take longer and the quality may be affected."
