Collection of black and white press agency and official photographs (including 5 duplicates) relating to developments during 1965-80, from the time of Rhodesia's unilateral declaration of Independence (UDI) until the emergence of the republic of Zimbabwe. Many were collected to illustrate articles in 'Commonwealth in Focus', and some were reproduced in the 'Commonwealth in Focus' exhibition 1982. The captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

Showing Captain Hoste and another officer at the head of ‘B’ Troop, mounted in formation on the dry section of the Tuli Riverbed. ‘B’ Troop left Tuli on July 6th to cut the road through to the Umzingwani River (50 miles from Tuli) while the main column awaited provisions from Macloutsie.

The European at the left of the group is (Sir) Herman Melville Heyman (1859-1938), Commander of 'A' Troop of the BSACo Police contingent. The other two figures are unidentified, althoguh the central figure is possibly Frank Johnson. This photograph presumably coincided with the following passage from Surridge's lecture: "Go with me in thought to the top of one of the highest peaks...

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Collection of prints inserted in a bound copy of the Rhodesia-Nyasaland Royal Commission Report (Cmd. 5949) 1939. Written on the title page is 'Illustrated with the Chairman's snapshot photographs.' Plate 1 is inside the front cover; the remainder are in pairs on sheets of paper bound into the volume at intervals. They are prints of sharp definition and high quality, mostly 140 x 90 mm, but numbers 5, 17, 18, 44, 46 and 47 are approximately 95 x 120 mm. All have hand-written captions. ...
