Shows the young king in his coronation uniform. Malietoa Tanu, the Anglo-American candidate for the throne in the war of 1899, was only king for a short time. Crowned on 23 Mar. 1899, he left the next year after the partition of Samoa to continue his education in Fiji. A print of the slide is at Y309C/30.

The images are of birds, with the exception of two koala bears, two kangaroos and one opossum. The vast majority are the work of three authors, signed Artah, M. Simpson and Koddi. Artah is Violet Artah Bartlett, an artist specialising in Australian ornithology who worked in Sydney during the 1920s. It has proved impossible as yet...

272 x 200 mm. View from the easternmost end of King Street looking west. In the right foreground is a three storey terrace block with cast-iron verandahs running along the first floor. The right-hand portion of this is occupied by the Oxford Hotel. Directly opposite, at the extreme left of the print, a small part of the portico of St James's Church can be seen. Further down the road, on the junction with Phillip Street, is the Supreme Court Hotel.
