The central figures have not been identified, but Miss Smyly has noted Colonel de Burgh Rose and John Maxwell. Richard Aubrey De Burgh Rose (1877-1962) served in the South African War with the Worcestershire Regiment; was seconded to the Gold Coast Regiment, W.A.F.F. in 1906, and commanded it from 1914 until 1922 (D.S.O. 1916).
