Natural size. The ‘Emma’ 16 and a half onz. The ‘Adalina’ 22 and a half onz 17 and a half dwt.
Nuggets from ‘New Caledonia’ Lydenburg Gold Fields. These two nuggets were found by a man named Potgieter in a crack in a boulder, and it is reputed that they formed part of the gold sent to London by Burgers to mint his sovereigns. Probably by H. Ferdinand Gros.
The end of the ‘Clement Hill’, ‘Winifred’, and ‘Hussein’, Bukakata Causeway, Sesse Islands, Lake Victoria, after 1936, 1977
204 x 154 mm. Showing the scrapped hulls of these steamers lined along the waterfront as a breakwater. The ‘Winifred’ was launched in 1904 and the ‘Clement Hill’ two years later (the date for the ‘Hussein’ is unknown). These boats, in company with the ‘Winifreds’ sister ‘Sybil’, played a major part in cargo and passenger transport on Lake Victoria until they were scrapped in 1936.

Measuring 205 x 265 mm, this album contains 48 sepia photographs, each measuring 145 x 90 mm, two to a page, together with 22 loose prints of France and North Africa. The album prints have brief captions, and since they relate to Algiers, Biskra and a few of Tunis and Carthage, they may come from the same visit as Y304H.
