The English lady in this photograph is Mrs Armstrong, 1920 - 1929
Scope and Contents
140 x 190 mm. ‘Wife of an engineer in the Public Works Dept. Gold Coast Colony. During the lst World War (1 think, on some Committee or Work Party) she came to know Her Majesty Queen Mary. After the war, when on leave in England, Mrs Armstrong was always invited to tea with Queen Mary in Buckingham Palace. At one of these meetings the Queen entrusted Mrs Armstrong to bring to Accra, as a prize for a Baby Show, the silver bowl which the child is holding. I have no record of the names of mother & child, or the date; it would be in the l920s.’ Photograph by Justus A.C. Holm, Art Photographer, Gold Coast. Group of Mrs Armstrong, mother and child. John Harold Armstrong was a maintenance engineer appointed in 1916.
