Scope and Contents

A set of ceramic mugs modelled by Luck & Flaw, which bear a resemblance to the following politicians: Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, leader of the Labour Party, Michael Foot; and President Ronald Reagan. The Thatcher and Foot mugs were originally produced for the 1983 British general election. There are two copies of the Thatcher mug. One appears to be an original copy, which has a whiter finish and is heavier in weight, and bears the Luck & Flaw stamp on the underside of the base; probably made by Gill Wing Ceramics or English Ironstone Tableware Limited. The second copy has a slight green tinge in the finish and is lighter in weight, and does not bear the partnership's stamp; this may be a later reproduction by Carlton Ware. There is also two copies of the Reagan mug, once again differing in finish and weight. The date for the modelling and production of the Reagan mug is c 1988, and was made by James Kent Limited.
