Ceramic Ware, 1980 - 1992

 Series
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.10275/2/4

Scope and Contents

Luck & Flaw began their ceramic business in 1979/1980, initially working with Brunswick Ceramic Services and others to produce a Margaret Thatcher teapot, and subsequently a number of other items, including eggcups and mugs. This side of the Luck & Flaw partnership continued to operate once Spitting Image was in production. However, even though the business affairs of Luck & Flaw Ceramics was conducted at the offices of Spitting Image Productions Limited, it remained a separate entity. Carlton Ware obtained manufacturing, marketing and distribution rights over the ceramic merchandise in 1987. This relationship was dissolved in 1988. James Kent Limited produced a couple of items in 1988, but this relationship was also short-lived. Luck & Flaw Ceramics effectively came to an end in 1989. A Margaret Thatcher 10th anniversary toby jug, manufactured in 1989, and several items produced by Kevin Francis Limited in the early 1990s were part of the activities of Spitting Image Productions Limited, rather than Luck & Flaw Ceramics, and they can be found in that sub-fonds of the archive.

In this series you will find examples of the ceramic ware produced by the partnership. However, it is not comprehensive; the Prince Charles and Princess Diana eggcups are absent. There is also paperwork relating to the activities surrounding the ceramic business.
