Scope and Contents

This section of the Roger Law Archive represents the early working partnership between Law and Peter Fluck, known as Luck & Flaw, prior to their work on Spitting Image. This period mainly covers the years 1975 to 1983, when Fluck and Law were mostly producing plasticine model illustrations for various outlets and books. However, in 1980, they also began modelling and selling ceramic ware. This venture continued once Spitting Image was in production, and operated as a separate entity from Spitting Image Productions Limited. Luck & Flaw Ceramics effectively ceased in 1989, though outstanding financial issues with partners in that activity continued into the early 1990s.

This part of the archive has been split into the following main sections: artwork, which is comprised largely of working drawings for plasticine models; published material, which represents the various books, advertisements and outlets that featured their work; photographic material that hold the images of their models, along with publicity-related items; examples of ceramic ware produced by or for the partnership, between 1980 and 1988, along with related paperwork and publicity material; financial records; promotional material; and some miscellaneous items.

In many of the catalogue descriptions for this part of the archive, the reference 'L&F/number' appears alongside the mention of an item. This is an original reference number given to artwork, etc by Law's wife, Deirdre Amsden, who created the initial listing of the archive's contents. These reference numbers can be used to search what is known as 'the bible,' which is a bundle of documentation found in the Deirdre Amsden Paperwork section of the archive. 'The bible' contains further background information and other details about items, which are not necessarily found within the catalogue descriptions.
