Miscellaneous Magazines, 1961 - 1974
Scope and Contents
A box containing issues of various publications, along with proofs and tearsheets from other outlets, all of which feature illustrations by Roger Law. The following items are present:
1. March-April 1972 (Vol. 2 No. 2) issue of the American literary journal, Audience, which features a plasticine model illustration on pages 38-39 (RL/Pre-/939).
2. November 1973 issue of the Dutch magazine, Avenue, which features a plasticine model illustration on pages 108-109 (RL/Pre-/888).
3. August 1963 issue of the British leisure/travel magazine, Go!, which feature pencil drawings on pages 21-28 (RL/Pre-/1080).
4. Autumn 1967 issue of the British magazine, Hearth and Home, which features a pencil drawing on page 36.
5. A proof for the front cover of the May 1970 issue of the magazine, Industry Week, which features a plasticine model illustration (RL/Pre-/780).
6. November 1971 issue of the British magazine, Management Today, which features a plasticine model illustration on the front cover (RL/Pre-/704).
7. November 1971 issue of the German magazine, Manager Magazin, which features the cartoon strip, Computer-Comic, on page 113 (RL/Pre-/1014).
8. Tearsheets from the publication, Motif (1961; Vol. 8), which features a page of pencil illustrations, under the title, The Printer's Dream (RL/Pre-/860).
9. 6 November 1972 issue of the American weekly magazine, Newsweek, which features a photograph on page 1 of the front cover of a previous issue, which had comedy and tragedy masks in the likeness of President Richard Nixon and U.S. Senator George McGovern, made by Law (RL/Pre-/849).
10. March 1974 issue of the pornographic magazine, Oui, which features a photograph of the plasticine model illustration with Princess Anne and Michael Phillips depicted as race horses, originally published in Nova (RL/Pre-/698). The reader is advised that this publication contains explicit female nudity.
11. A tearsheet from the 13 May 1963 edition of the British satirical/current affairs magazine, Private Eye, containing page 7, which features pencil drawings (RL/Pre-/1064).
12. A tearsheet from an unidentified publication, c 1967, which contains an advertisement with a woodcut print illustration for the oil company, Shell (RL/Pre-/881).
13. December 1964 (No. 142) issue of SIA Journal (Society of Industrial Arts Journal), which features a drawing by Law on page 9 (RL/Pre-/800), along with drawings and woodcut prints by Paul Hogarth, Peter Fluck, and Julian Allen on pages 8-10.
14. 21 February 1974 (No. 9) issue of the German publication, Stern Magazin, which features artwork that accompanies an article on the artist, George Grosz, on page 41.
15. 22 August 1964 (Vol. 245, No. 6525) issue of The Illustrated London News, which contains an advertisement from British Petroleum on page 281, featuring a woodcut print depicting German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach, along with a written passage by British composer, Benjamin Britten. The advert relates to Melford Festival (RL/Pre-/1065).
16. 17 November 1962 (Vol. 2, No. 5) issue of the British weekly magazine, Topic, which features a woodcut print on the cover (RL/Pre-/934).
17. Winter 1963 (Vol. 1, No. 1) issue of the British magazine, Town & Country International, which features pencil drawings on pages 65-67 and a woodcut print on pages 80-81 (RL/Pre-/1071 and 1072).
18. 24 May 1973 (Vol. 71, No. 22) issue of the television schedule magazine, TV Times (Anglia edition), containing an advertisement for Woolworth's Cover-Plus emulsion paints on pages 30-31, which features plasticine models of the Punch and Judy puppet characters (RL/Pre-/1056).
19. July/August 1974 (No. 7) issue of the Unilever Magazine, which features a plasticine model illustration on the front cover (RL/Pre-/942).
20. Tearsheets from an unidentified 1965 British edition of the fashion magazine, Vogue, which feature pencil drawings (RL/Pre-/773).
21. A 1970 edition of British Overseas Airways Corporation's Welcome Aboard inflight magazine, which features plasticine model illustrations on pages 23-26 (RL/Pre-/773).
22. A tearsheet from an unidentified publication, which features a pencil drawing.
