Professional, 1946 - 1975
Scope and Contents
Material relating to Roger Law's professional output, mainly as a magazine and newspaper illustrator, between 1959 and 1975, prior to his working partnership with Peter Fluck. It should be noted that Law's artwork began to be published while he was still studying at the Cambridge School of Art. It should also be noted that in this period Law collaborated with his wife, Deirdre Amsden, either as art directors for publications or working together to make plasticine model illustrations.
This part of the archive has been split into five main sections: original artwork and proofs; magazines, newspapers and other published items featuring Law's illustrations and other professional output; photographic material containing reference shots for illustrations and images of plasticine models, along with other items; research material concerning Law's journalistic output and other associated activities; and items relating to the puppet film, The Milkman: A Satire on Capitalism, made by Law with Amsden and students at Reed College, Oregon. Also present in this part of the archive are certificates awarded to Law from the Designers and Art Directors Association; a bundle of correspondence; and some miscellaneous items.
Items connected to one another are often found in the other parts of this section of the archive (e.g. rough drawings for a cartoon strip in the Artwork series and their finished version in the Published Material series).
