Biography

The Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd was formed in 1951 by Matheson & Co. Ltd, the British Tanker Co. Ltd and Common Brothers Ltd. The new company's fleet of oil tankers was managed by Common Brothers Ltd, Newcastle-on-Tyne, with Matheson & Co. Ltd acting as the company's Secretaries. Its vessels included the 'Border Castle', 'Border Chieftan', 'Border Falcon', 'Border Fusilier', 'Border Hunter', 'Border Keith', 'Border Laird', 'Border Lass', 'Border Minstrel', 'Border Pele', 'Border Regiment', 'Border Reiver', 'Border Sentinel', 'Border Shepherd' and 'Border Tenir', launched between 1952 and 1960. Matheson & Co. Ltd and Common Brothers Ltd sold their interests in the company on 31 December 1975 to B.P., which assumed control of the ships during the following year. B.P. acquired the remaining shareholdings in 1979.
