Access to the collection is subject to special conditions and is at the discretion of Matheson & Co. Ltd, part of the Jardine Matheson Group. A statement of the conditions and an application form are available in the Manuscripts Reading Room. Printed copies of the form are available by post (please contact the University Library). Immediate Source of Acquisition

Some of the papers were received as part of the initial accessions of Jardine Matheson material, but most of the material was received from Matheson & Co. Ltd in accessions from 2010 onwards. I21 was reorganised and renumbered following the cataloguing of the later accessions.

Series J contains semi-official correspondence of Matheson & Co. Ltd with Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd and related companies. This series includes J1/6, containing 'Sundry semi-official letters' from Matheson & Co. Ltd to miscellaneous correspondents, including Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd. Series K also contains some early unbound correspondence of Matheson & Co. Ltd.

J1/138/4 includes a brief history of Matheson & Co. Ltd by W.J. Keswick, 21 December 1948, enclosed with his semi-official letter no. 206 from London to D.F. Landale, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, 31 December 1948.
