Scope and Contents

A small set of copies of correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, Common Brothers Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, Finance Corporation for Industry Ltd, London, and Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd, London, and related papers, 14 March 1960-29 July 1963, regarding the Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd's loan facilities with the Finance Corporation for Industry Ltd and the funding of new tankers, including a new 19,000 ton tanker.

Loose inside the file is a larger folder labelled 'Lowland Tanker 75,000 dwt Motor Tankers' containing papers of 30 July 1964-20 November 1968 regarding the finance and tonnage of the Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd, especially the acquisition of new 75,000 d.w.t. motor tankers. The papers include the report of the Directors, balance sheet and profit and loss account of the Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd for the year ended 31 March 1964, with notes on the accounts and schedules; a set of statements in five sections (A-E) regarding new 75,000 d.w.t. motor tankers, 11 January 1965, with a covering letter from Common Brothers Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, to Matheson & Co. Ltd, 15 January 1965; a schedule of the depreciation of the company's original fleet of 15 ships and two types of 75,000 d.w.t. tankers for the years ended 31 March 1968 to 31 March 1977, dated 25 January 1965; a table of the position if the company continues to operate after 31 March 1967 with the original fleet only, 1 February 1965; and a table for the continuation of the present scheme to operate 15 tankers, coupled with a proposal to build and operate a 75,000 d.w.t. motor tanker, 1 February 1965. There are more than one copy of many of the documents.
