Scope and Contents
The ring-binder is labelled '1954/55 Ocean Shipping Australia China Line' and '2. Ocean Shipping', and is divided into three sections:
1. General: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with two letters from Common Brothers Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, to Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Agents, Australia China Line Ltd, 28 September-9 November 1954.
2. Lowland Tanker Co.: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 19 February 1954-26 October 1955, with a letter from W.J. Keswick, Matheson & Co. Ltd, to Eliot Common, Common Brothers Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, 8 March 1954, and Common's reply, 10 March 1954; progress reports no. 21, 19 February 1954, and no. 36, 30 June 1955, on the Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd; and the balance sheet of Australia China Line Ltd, 31 March 1954.
3. Liquidation: correspondence (including extracts of letters) between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters and papers, 19 March-20 October 1955.
