Scope and Contents
The ring-binder is labelled '1956/57 Private & Confidential' and is numbered 50. It is divided into five sections:
1. San Miguel Brewery: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters and papers, including correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and the Ansor Corporation, San Francisco, and San Miguel Brewery, Manila, and balance sheets and accounts of the San Miguel Brewery, 13 March 1956-3 September 1957.
2. Hongkong & Kowloon Wharf & Godown Co. Ltd Shares: a small set of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 18-30 October 1957, with a list of big shareholders of the Hongkong & Kowloon Wharf & Godown Co. Ltd, 24 October 1957.
3. Lowland Tanker Co. Ltd: three pieces of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 15 January-6 February 1957, with a copy of the 'escalator' agreement between the Anglo-Iranian Oil Co. Ltd and the Lowland Tanker Co., 19 February 1951, and two pieces of correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd and Cooper Brother & Co., chartered accountants, London, 25 and 30 January 1957.
4. Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd (Commons): correspondence and a few telegrams exchanged between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 2 January-15 February 1957, with draft statements of account of the Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd as at 30 June 1956 and notes by H. Sidbury, Hong Kong, regarding the Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd, 21 January 1957.
5. Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters and papers, 28 May-15 August 1956. The papers include a memorandum by Cooper, Brothers & Co., chartered accountants, on a proposed scheme for a new ore carrier company, 23 July 1956.
