The Premier Diamond Mine near Pretoria, 1925

152 x 202 mm. A view looking down into the big hole at the Premier Diamond Mine twenty three miles east of Pretoria. It was here that the Cullinan Diamond, later presented to Edward VII for inclusion in the Crown Jewels, was found in 1905.

The Presidency, Pretoria, 1932

Scope and Contents 295 x 213 mm. Showing Kruger's house in Church Street West, a long single storied building with a 'stoep' and a corrugated iron roof. President Kruger is seated on the 'stoep' while two soldiers stand on guard duty beside the man entrance. After the death of Kruger's wife in 1901 the house was used by the South African Constabulary. After a short spell as a boarding house it was reoccupied by members of the Kruger family until 1918 when it became a nursing home. In 1934 it became the...

[Tomb of President Paulus Kruger in Pretoria], 1900 - 1910

152 x 205 mm. Showing the grave of President Kruger in the old cenetry at Pretoria, consisting of a massive black marble tombstone topped by a white bust of him (1825-1904). To the left of his grave, in the same plot, is the tomb of his second wife Gezina Susanna Frederika Wilhelmina Du Plessis (1831-1901) whom he had married in 1847. Kruger died in Switzerland and was embalmed and temporarily laid in a vault beoire finally being moved to Pretoria.

This group of Kodachromes shows Africans dancing in what is clearly the same spot. No 6 is marked 'Mine dancing Durban Deep' and no 13 'Tribal dancing at Johannesburg gold mine.' Presumably, despite its name, Durban Deep is in Johannesburg. Nos 11 and 12 are captioned 'Gumboot dance' but the other slides are merely marked 'MD' without further details.
