A collection of 18 glass slides and 38 photographs. The slides were used by Hogbin to illustrate talks on her work when on furlough (leave of absence), and their captions were provided by her niece. The captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Collection of prints inserted in a bound copy of the Rhodesia-Nyasaland Royal Commission Report (Cmd. 5949) 1939. Written on the title page is 'Illustrated with the Chairman's snapshot photographs.' Plate 1 is inside the front cover; the remainder are in pairs on sheets of paper bound into the volume at intervals. They are prints of sharp definition and high quality, mostly 140 x 90 mm, but numbers 5, 17, 18, 44, 46 and 47 are approximately 95 x 120 mm. All have hand-written captions. ...

Showing Bell, dressed in full uniform, standing beside Kahaya, with servants and other members of the King's retinue in the background: 'We reached Mbarara, the principal town of Ankole, ... Kahaya, the King of Ankole, met me on the boundary of his territory and accompanied me to Mbarara. He is an enormous fellow. About 25 years of age, but very boyish looking. He is at least 6'6" in height and broader in proportion. Quite a young giant and he would make a great sensation...

This is probably a demonstration of one of the weapons given to Bell when he visited Kahaya's house the day after arriving in Mbarara ('Kahaya gave me a lot of bows and arrows, and pottery, and some skins; also a cow and calf', (Bell 1907, February 1)).
