A short history and description of the Parliament House, Melbourne
Alfred Hospital, 1870 - 1880
183 x 129 mm. A view of the hospital, a brick building with white stone facings situated in Commercial Road, Prahran. The hospital, the second in Melbourne, was built as a thanksgiving to commemorate the Duke of Edinburgh’s survival of the attempted assassination in Sydney in 1868. Prince Alfred laid the foundation stone in 1869, and the building was opened in 1871.

They came into existence in 1846, when John Arthur, the first superintendent laid out a five acre paddock.
