141 x 192 mm. Showing the tree-lined stream leading to a farmhouse and hills. This is presumably the Dwars River on which the town of Ceres, in the Western Cape lies.
Chapel at Kalk Bay and School House, 1863 - 1867
142 x 69 mm. Showing the small chapel and schoolhouse standing on the foreshore at Kalk Bay, with boulder-strewn beach in the foreground and a rocky hill in the background. A note in C.W. Busk's hand adds: 'Kalk Bay when I visited it in 1914 was closely built all along the road on both sides with houses and the railway on the rocks, also Muisenberg beach, quite unrecognizable from what this photo shows in 1863-7'.

A seated half length portrait of Sir Cristoffel Joseph Brand (1797-1875) dressed in judges robes and wig. Born in Simonstown, Brand was admitted to the Cape Bar in 1821. Brand served as the first Speaker in the Cape Parliament from 1854-1874 and was a noted advocate and journalist.

They are uncaptioned but most have been identified from books on the Cape and on South African architecture; 25-31 are almost certainly photographs of Zulu peoples; the remainder are less clearly identified. 201 x 137 mm. The annotation on the reverse, in a different hand to the title, reads 'Darling St., Cape Town, before embarking for Port Nolloth in transit for O'okiep. Time: some time early in 1900. D Coy spent about a year in garrison there before returning'. It then appears to be initialled but these are not clear. Photographer unknown.
