General Post Office, 1889 - 1901

148 x 193 mm. Situated at the junction of Bourke Street and Elizabeth Street, the photograph shows the ornate building with its large clock-tower. The main part of the building was constructed between 1859-1867, the part third storey and the clock-tower being added later and completed in 1889. The building was designed by A.E. Johnson.

A view of the State Governor’s residence in the Domain, a building Italianate in style, with a square tower on one corner of the main building, and reputed to be derived from Osborne House in the Isle of Wight. The building was designed in the Public Works Office when W.W. Wardell was in charge, and was built between 1872-1876.

204 x 155 mm. A view showing the façade and one side of the building, which overlooks the Treasury Gardens. Said to be the work of M. Egan, construction of the buildings began in 1859, but they were not completed until 1876. The stone carving of the Royal Coat of Arms over the main entrance can only be partially seen in this view. Grand Hotel, Melbourne, 1885 - 1891

198 x 147 mm. A view of the façade of the hotel, which looks on to Spring Street (and is now the Windsor Hotel). Built at the height of the land boom, it is an elaborate Gothic building with gables and arches, and cost £110,000 to construct, with another £30,000 spent on fittings, including the novelty of hydraulic lifts.

60 x 98 mm. A carte de visite full length studio portrait of E.J. Dunn's mother, taken at Beechworth, probably in the late 1860's. The backmark reads: 'Photograph by Jas. E. Bray' (James E. Bray), Camp Street, Beechworth. Extra copies 1/6 each or 7/6 per half dozen. Extra copies may be had by sending the above number'. The number '73' has been pencilled on the reverse, presumably by the phgotographer.
