A Bush Home, 1885 - 1901
200 x 146 mm. A view showing a small wooden cabin with a mother and two children beside the doorway. The roofing is made in the characteristic settlers’ way with sheets of flattened tree-bark held down by a network of branches. The picture shows a small vegetable plot in the foreground. This photograph, and Y3087D/55, give a fascinating and evocative picture of the hardships of life outside the larger cities.

Alfred Hospital, 1870 - 1880
183 x 129 mm. A view of the hospital, a brick building with white stone facings situated in Commercial Road, Prahran. The hospital, the second in Melbourne, was built as a thanksgiving to commemorate the Duke of Edinburgh’s survival of the attempted assassination in Sydney in 1868. Prince Alfred laid the foundation stone in 1869, and the building was opened in 1871.
