A view showing the third building occupied by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Built in Hollard Street, with a foundation stone laid by Lord Milner in 1903, the building was opened for use in January 1904.

The majority show the garden, from scenes in April 1967 to seven transparencies making up a panorama taken on the eve of departure in March 1970. In between these are extensive views both of individual clumps of flowers and more general scenes.

159 x 115 mm. Showing a stone bridge on the Montagu Pass which connects George and Oudtshoorn across the Outeniqua Mountains. The Pass, opened in 1848, was named after Sir John Montagu, the Colonial Secretary responsible for the construction which opened up the area.

A series of watercolours commissioned from the Rhodesian artist Mrs Gilbert Stephenson to be used in colouring lantern slides to illustrate the fifth handbook, A.J. Sargent, 'South Africa: seven lectures (London, 1914). Stephenson had been recommended by the British South Africa Company.

Strike headquarters, the Old Market Square, Fordsburg, 1950 - 1970
152 x 210 mm. ‘Mr van Tonder drew Saamtrek’s attention to the dismantling of the strike headquarters, the Old Market Square, Fordsburg. Fortunately they were able to find the corner of the building which originally formed the headquarters of [Percy] Fisher and [Harry] Spendiff, the strike leaders. Also the window where their bodies were found after the fighting'.
