A collection of high quality photographs, measuring 210 x 160 mm, mounted on black album sheets. They are uncaptioned but most have been identified from books on the Cape and on South African architecture; 25-31 are almost certainly photographs of Zulu peoples; the remainder are less clearly identified. Photographer unknown.

Water colours and pen and ink sketches documenting Anderson's travels in southern Africa, accompanied by his original captions and explanatory notes. The original titles and captions have been enclosed in single quotation marks, and have been transcribed in the catalogue as found, with the exception of an egregiously offensive term used in some titles, which has not been transcribed. Where possible, modern place names have been supplied.
'Colonel Wood's Camp on the Blood River, south side', 17 Jan. 1879
The caption reads, 'The sketch is taken, looking south the camp is No. 4 Column, on the march to the Zulu War, taken 17th January 1879. The Camp of the Swazi warriors 1,000 strong is on the right and commanded by British officers. It is attached to Colonel Wood's force to fight against the Zulu nation, sent by their King'.
Colonial Office Visual Instruction Committee water colours
A series of watercolours commissioned from the Rhodesian artist Mrs Gilbert Stephenson to be used in colouring lantern slides to illustrate the fifth handbook, A.J. Sargent, 'South Africa: seven lectures (London, 1914). Stephenson had been recommended by the British South Africa Company.
