245 x 180 mm. Oval print. A view across the harbour towards Fort Denison, with a mock battle in progress beyond the fort. The harbour is dotted with small craft and a paddle ferry can be seen to the left of the fort, packed with passengers. The exact year, or event celebrated, has not been determined. A view of moored sailing ships, tied three deep to the shore. Stockton lies just north of Newcastle, on a peninsula the other side of the Hunter River. Like Newcastle it is an important coal producer; in the early days of the colony, the worst convicts from Newcastle were sent to Stockton as lime-burners.
