Sham Fight, Sydney Harbour, 1872 - 1895

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3086C/9

Scope and Contents

245 x 180 mm. Oval print. A view across the harbour towards Fort Denison, with a mock battle in progress beyond the fort. The harbour is dotted with small craft and a paddle ferry can be seen to the left of the fort, packed with passengers. The exact year, or event celebrated, has not been determined. Sydney has held a regatta every year since 1837, although this is presumably a re-enactment of a specific happening. Jack Cato, records that Charles Kerry in 1895 'covered the big aquatic fete in Sydney Harbour' but gives no further details (Cato 1955, page unknown).
