Melbourne Public Library, 1885 - 1901
200 x 147 mm. An interior view looking along a reading room lined with columns and busts, and with the bookshelves in alcoves. The library, situated in Swanston Street, was designed by Joseph Reed. The foundation stone was laid in 1853, and the first portion of the building was completed in 1856, when it was officially opened in that year.

Melbourne University, 1885 - 1891
207 x 149 mm. A view looking across a small ornamental lake towards two of the university buildings, the original building being on the right. One of the oldest Melbourne buildings, it was completed in the 1850s, with external walls of Victorian Bluestone, and faced with Hobart freestone.

204 x 139 mm. A photograph of two men, one carrying an axe, standing beside a small wagon in front of a river or lake, at an unidentified location. The man standing at the left bears a considerable resemblance to the man standing at the right of the picture in Y3083B/1.

Menzies Hotel, 1870 - 1880
183 x 128 mm. A view of the hotel, which stands at the junction between William Street and Bourke Street. The hotel, opened in 1867, is built in the renaissance style, and was erected by David Mitchell, father of Dame Nellie Melba. For a later view of the building, considerably altered, see Y3087D/18.

Mining scenes in Australia, 1840 - 1900
Two undated pencil and watercolour sketches. The first is of a group of diggers by a stream with hills on either side and a tall hill in the background. It is marked in pencil 'outhern diggins' (the start of the word is trimmed off) and 'Browne'. The second picture is of a party of men with pack animals moving along a path with hill slopes in the background. It is marked in pencil 'Diggings' and 'Browne'.

Minutes of the General Association for the Australian Colonies
Minutes and inserted printed and manuscript material, including a list of members, correspondence, printed reports and other publications, apparently representing the complete proceedings of the Association for the period 1855-1862. At the front of the volume is an article by J.S. O'Halloran, 'Reminiscences of the Australian Association', from his 'Colonies and India', 1884.

Miscellaneous Conferences 1948-1982, 1948 - 1982
This collection was compiled from three files on Commonwealth Conferences, other than meetings of heads of governments: Colonial Conferences: General; Commonwealth Conferences: General; Commonwealth Conferences: Trade, Financial, Economic. There are 90 photographs, but owing to some changes in the collection, the numbering is somewhat erratic: Nos. 35-38 and 40-42 do not exist, and there are additional photographs at 56 A-B and 62 A-E.
