187 x 132 mm. A view looking across the narrow river towards woodland and a path on the further bank which leads to the summit of Mount Munda. The photograph was taken ‘about two miles to the westward of Fernshawe, a small but extremely romantic township’. An indistinct figure can be seen beside the creek, partially obscured by ferns.

Above the platform hangs an ornate sign offering 'Refreshments', beneath which stand four waitresses; 'The largest and most complete refreshment rooms on the railway has been established here, ample time being allowed by all passenger trains for travellers to obtain refreshment.' The images are of birds, with the exception of two koala bears, two kangaroos and one opossum. The vast majority are the work of three authors, signed Artah, M. Simpson and Koddi. Artah is Violet Artah Bartlett, an artist specialising in Australian ornithology who worked in Sydney during the 1920s. It has proved impossible as yet...
