364 x 257 mm. A view of the Government Building on Lambton Quay with three figures standing in the roadway in front. This is the handsome building which superseded the offices shown in Y3089B/27. Finished around 1876 (to the design of W.H. Clayton), it is a wooden structure looking deceptively like stone. The chimneys seen here were later removed in the interests of architectural harmony.

A view of the State Governor’s residence in the Domain, a building Italianate in style, with a square tower on one corner of the main building, and reputed to be derived from Osborne House in the Isle of Wight. The building was designed in the Public Works Office when W.W. Wardell was in charge, and was built between 1872-1876.

A restrained and attractive building, more in the style of the eighteenth than the nineteenth century, it was designed by William Mason and completed in 1856. It took over from the first Government House, a wooden building which burnt down in 1848.

This is the second Government House, designed by William Mason in 1856 to replace the first residence which burnt down in 1848.
