264 x 233 mm (mounted on card). A group photograph of European officials, medical staff and orderlies gathered to say farewell to J.D. Gimlette. Other identified figures in the group are Mr and Mrs William Langham-Carter. The precise date of Gimlettes departure has not been determined, but this photograph must have been taken prior to August 1915, when Langham-Carter departed on furlough. Dr L.H. Taylor who took over from Gimlette, is seated at the left of the group.

Scope and Contents This file contains a large set of notes on the Westminster House residence in Colombo (gardens, utilities and domestic staff), entertaining, dress, gifts and functions. It seems to date from 1975, and probably was prepared by Smedley as a handover to his successor. There is also a manual, ‘Notes from Newcomers produced by DSWA Colombo’. The remaining material relates to the departure of the Smedleys, including lists of gifts and of people who attended their farewell party on 5 December 1975...
