Scope and Contents

290 x 236 mm. A group photograph of William Roger SANGUINETTI (1871-), with friends and colleagues posed in front of the Kedah Club. Sanguinetti served in the Public Works Department FMS from 1900; from 1921-circa 1926 he was State Engineer, Kedah and this latter date, taken in conjunction with the postings of some of the other figures in the group, is the most likely time for this photograph to have been taken. BUTTERFIELD; Public Works Department; Tuanku IBRAHIM; Regent of Kedah 1914-; Thomas Watts CLAYTON (1877-); Malayan Civl Servivce 1900-1932; British Adviser, Kedah 1925; H. WAN YAHAYA; Secretary to Government; Franklyn ROBINSON (1878-); Malayan Civil Service 1903-1930; Legal Adviser, Kedah 1926; W.E. SPEERS; Commissioner; Tuanku BADLISHAH; Sultan of Kedah; Ernest Cranfield HICKS (1898-); Schoolmaster, Malaya 1921- (still serving in 1939); in Kedah 1923-1930. Also present in the group are the wives of many of these officials: Mrs F. ROBINSON; Mrs B. BABER; Mrs O. WATSON; Mrs H.M. BUTTERFIELD; Mrs J.A. SYMES; Mrs J.J. FLEURY (wife of the State Veterinary Surgeon); Mrs S.E. DENNYS and Miss WADDELL (schoolmistress in charge of the Malay Girls School at Kampong Bahru).
