Scope and Contents

Contains prints, of an approximate size of 80 x 100 mm, mounted on card, six to a page, in a padded black leather album inscribed on the cover India 1905-06 from C.C. and 'Photographs taken by Sir Charles Cust Bt. 1905-06' is written on the fly leaf in Queen Marys hand. Sir Charles Cust took this collection of amateur photographs while accompanying the Royal Party. Most of the photographs have elegant hand-written captiions, but these are not always very explicit - some portraying colleagues of the Royal Party have only initials or nick-names, and these have been identified where possible. Additional information, and descriptions of untitled items, are given in brackets. The photographs are in no coherent order, and the following is an attempt to arrange those which have clear locations in chronological order. Unfortunately, though there are at least six published works on the Royal Tour, their authors tend to concentrate on the set-piece occasions in major cities, and the exact royal route is hard to trace. Visits whose dates are not clear are indicated by ? And it has not proved possible to identify the Kaputhala hunting expeditions among several such occasions, most of which were not covered by reporters.
